This is a very interesting book. The topic, having a child in your heart. I know you are asking, what does that mean? So was I until I read this book. Our author, Paul Janson, takes us into the lives of a man and wife who both feel the stirring of a child in their heart. However, this child was one that was not conceived by the couple, but that is the whole idea behind this read. It is to show that the longing inside for a child to complete a couples lives does not have to be just one that is created among themselves. No, their child in the heart was found another way, and when they saw this child, they knew he was the child of their heart.This is a wonderful book with great illustrations. The book truly shows that there isn't just one way to have a child to love and be part of your lives. It is a very tender read, with a great message. Recommended.

Paul gave us The Child in Our Hearts soon after we adopted our daughter. He had written it after his daughters came home and he tells the story with great heart and warmth. We all were moved by this story that was our story, too.
It's an endearing book that we will always treasure.
As a pediatrician and father, I can honestly say the "The Child in Our Hearts" is a wonderful book for parents and children alike. It offers a very sweet view of bringing families together from far away. In "real" life, Dr. Janson is a excellent and caring physician so it is no surprise that this book will capture your heart!
I love this book and all the wonderful adaptations of the book, celebrating the many ways families are created. Most people would agree this book is great for children who have been adopted, but I would suggest this book is perfect for all children to learn about adoption. Children who are not adopted, may have questions about a friend or relative who is, and this is a great way to talk about it.

This would be a good book to share with adopted children, especially very young ones. It explains the need parents have to find the child that is in their hearts.

Paul Jansen has written a joyous story of adoption, and he has written it as a read-aloud story. The Child in Our Hearts is a sweet story of parenting. Paul has created a story of love, and the illustrations of Kevin Scott Gierman,with their soft colors and gentle strokes, fit the bill perfectly.
A beginning sight reader would be thrilled to read this book back to his or her parents, and in time, a non-reader would use the context of the illustrations to begin reading along. This book definitely offers a positive family activity together. Five Stars for this poignant book.
This book has an important message to share about adoption - that all children, no matter where they come from (adopted, assisted reproduction, anonymous donor, or surrogacy) - are born in one place - the heart of the parents who want them so badly. It is a simple story but a powerful one about a couple who have no children, yet have children in their hearts already. But if the children are in their hearts already, why can't they find them in their house? The couple go searching and finally end up at an adoption agency to find the child that is missing from their house yet already resides in their hearts. The story gets right to the heart of the matter about where children are really born - in your heart, not always through your body. Until that space in your heart is filled with the children you are meant to have, something will always be missing. This book says it all as this is exactly where children actually come from - the desire in your heart to have them. The book is dedicated to the author's two adopted daughters "who have always been in my heart" and to their mother.
