In Barnstorming, Harlan challenges his readers to harness the entrepreneurial spirit of Barnstormers past, step out of their comfort zone, embrace risk and change, and build the business of their dreams. The book is full of information and ideas that are perfect for new and experienced entrepreneurs alike. It is rare to find a book in this genre with a truly unique perspective. Highly recommended for anyone who needs inspiration, but also practical strategies for getting results.
I have read both of Mr. Hammack's books, and this is the better of the two, in my opinion. Building on a good first book, he has crafted a more content-rich helper for any business person. I have spoken with the author a number of times, and he knows what he is talking about. He has acted as consultant and coach for numerous organization at home and abroad. Barnstormer is particularly strong in the chapters on networking, public speaking, and employee development. The ability to speak with confidence, not only before a crowd, but in a conference room, is essential for any executive. Effective networking is obviously a necessity as well. No company can truly succeed without every employee being fully engaged and "on board". Hammack guides the reader through these three essential areas with sure confidence and with specific tips and references.
The book can be read in an hour or two, but the reader will likely go back to re-read key sections, as they are definitely worth a second and third look. A nicely crafted tome, not only for the business executive, but for leaders of non-profits as well.
